The Honeywell HR Pathways Program: Experiences from a 2018 graduate

In October 2018, after almost 4 years of adventure, my big day had finally come. Graduation day! Graduation from what, you may ask? The Honeywell HR Pathways Program, of course. 😉 This was a big day for me. After all, I had spent almost half a decade in the program and so many learnings to show for it. For those not familiar with the program, it’s probably quite difficult to imagine. I have to say, on some days, I find it hard to believe or describe what I went through myself. However, always being up for a good challenge, I thought I’d try to describe it anyways. After all, the program has been one of my most formative career experiences to date. That deserves a celebration of sorts!   What is the Honeywell HR Pathways Program? The Honeywell HR Pathways Program is an early careers leadership development program. It is a program, created by Honeywell, to feed the internal HR talent pipeline with leaders for tomorrow. Unlike with some programs, participants need...

Identifying metrics to visualise success in a learning organisation: A true how to story

Identifying metrics to visualise success in a learning organisation: A true how to story

Stepping into my last role as a Sr. Learning Operations Specialist, there was one thing that struck me as odd. It was the fact that, despite working for a highly developed Fortune 100 company, there only seemed to be one consistently used metric. Utilised across all leadership development programs offered, that metric was the Net Promoter Score (NPS). For those of you unfamiliar with NPS, it is a metric which basically measures the customer/client relationship. It is an index ranging from -100 to 100, which measures the willingness of customers to recommend a company’s product/service to others. However, my assigned challenge as the new Sr. Learning Operations Specialist, was to find a way to visualise the success of the Leadership Development & Learning organisation as a whole. A single metric evaluating the success of products and services alone wouldn’t cut it. After all, could NPS tell you if: Programs were being delivered on time? Content was achieving its desired outcome? Costs were within reasonable parameters? Learning...

Recruiting for Honeywell at the University of Leeds

Recruiting for Honeywell at the University of Leeds

December 2014. The month I visited the University of Leeds for my first recruitment event! This was a great honour. Especially, since the University of Leeds is my Master's degree alma mata. I also had the wonderful opportunity to work side by side with Cheryl Lim. She's Honeywell's UK & Ireland HR Country Leader and one of the main reasons I joined Honeywell in the first place. She's definitely an impressive woman. However, as an HR Pathways Program graduate, she's also someone I feel I can relate to very well. She really gives me something to aspire to. Together, we presented to the current cohort of University of Leeds Business School MA Human Resources Management students. There were about 100 students there and our presentation covered: An overview of Honeywell's vision, culture and opportunities Insights into the HR Pathways Program recruitment process My personal experiences of life and work after university Encouragement to students to make the most of the opportunities they receive   I'm very happy...

My meeting with Mary-Jo Jacobi: An Executive in Residence at the University of Leeds

My meeting with Mary-Jo Jacobi: An Executive in Residence at the University of Leeds

A little while ago, the University of Leeds offered an "Executives in Residence" event with Mary-Jo Jacobi Jephson. This event allows current students to meet and learn from a visiting Executive. I hadn't heard of Mrs. Jacobi Jephson before the meeting. However, following my attendance at the event, I was definitely in a pensive mood. What she said gave me a lot to consider. Being a figure of high importance in the business world, I listened to Mrs. Jacobi Jephson with great respect. It would appear she had achieved much in her life. The fact she took the time to speak to our group, labelled the "future generation of business", was also commendable. I must admit, however, that the longer she spoke, the less I wanted to do with her world. The more she revealed about her life, the less connected I felt to her path. Her experiences were varied. Her achievements were admirable too. For all intents and purposes, she seemed the epitome of what...
